There were lots of competitive sports in the orphanage.  When evacuated to the countryside during the war, Pat had a rather unsuccessful experience with a horse from the moors. Pat was also an accomplished badminton player, as well as golfing and swimming.

Annette says she was never a great sports person but she did excel at swimming. As a hobby she enjoyed sewing and square dancing but writing has been with her all her life.

Bill loved sailing, it was his passion and when he was not working as a butcher in Adelaide he was usually in a boatoff the coast. Sailing was Bill's hobby, his passion and his life outside work.
