A Mom's Intuition
It was a weekend just before school resumed this fall and granddaughter Mia age 9 was invited for a sleepover at a special friend's house. Her younger sister Nikki age 7 immediately began packing her 'stuff', expecting to be included. Our Anna (their mom), sensing that Mia was needing some space from her younger sister, came up with what I believe was a brilliant plan.
She told Nikki, "Nikki, I have been looking forward to our having some 'girl' time together, just you and me! What would you like to do together this weekend?" Nikki's eyes widened and began to sparkle as she began thinking about having her mom all to herself. (Dad Ed was ready for some Buckeye football and cooling out a bit.)
While Mia took her leave, quietly walking the short block to her friend's house, sister Nikki was bubbling with excitement about the possibilities for her mom weekend. After a special trip to the mall shopping for a new school outfit, they stopped for ice cream. At bedtime she asked her mom to come snuggle with her as she read 'Mom' a few bedtime stories!

What a neat story. Mom's have a special way of smoothing things over with their children. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, Golden! As I think back about my own parenting of our sons, I was never that creative on the spot.
Probably didn't take long for Nikki to go to sleep.
Charles, Thanks for your precious comment! Yes, Nikki is a live wire.
I thought is was always "Father Knows Best". But mothers have intuition that fathers can only dream of.
I guess I can only tell you I'm green with envy of your daughter's intuition - I was usually at a loss what to do when problems came up with my son, and I always wished I had that innate sense of what to do so many of my friends seemed to have with their children. How fortunate Anna has "the touch."
